FTB Skies 2 - Apothic Invader

Been playing through the Skies 2 Pack for quite a while and am on latest release (1.5.2) at time of post, have been stuck on Apothic world tier as nothing I kill seems to count towards completing the World Tier: Ascent - Kill Apothic Invader. I have been raiding dungeons in overworld and nether, I have built a huge and unclaimed area that spawns wild enemies, and I regularly kill the mobs that I think should count; the ones with lots of health and play music, but so far nothing has counted. So the question is this: is my game borked, is the ascent tier broken, or am I just not doing something right? I know I have passed this hurdle a ton of times on other packs, just weird to be stuck in one place for probably over 100 hours. Thanks!
