Phase 1 Progress - Test Coverage

Started: 2025-11-10 Status: IN PROGRESS Duration: Days 3-10 (8 days) Goal: Increase test coverage from 82% to 90%+


🎯 Phase 1 Objectives

  1. Increase overall test coverage from 82% to 90%+
  2. Fix packages with 0% coverage
  3. Bring low-coverage packages (<80%) to 90%+
  4. Fix runtime test failures
  5. Document test patterns

📦 Package Status

1. internal/cognee - PARTIAL ⚠️

Package: internal/cognee Starting Coverage: 0% Current Coverage: 12.5% Target Coverage: 90% Status: ⚠️ INCOMPLETE - Stub implementation

Summary:

  • Package contains mostly stub implementations
  • Core functions (Initialize, Start, Stop) have incomplete implementations that cause panics
  • Achieved 12.5% coverage on stable parts (constructors, basic methods)
  • Full coverage blocked by incomplete implementation

Tests Created:

  • ✅ CacheManager tests (2 tests)
  • ✅ CogneeManager tests (8 tests)
  • ✅ HostOptimizer tests (5 tests)
  • ⚠️ PerformanceOptimizer tests (10 tests, some fail due to stubs)
  • ✅ Concurrency tests (2 tests)
  • ✅ Metrics tests (2 tests)

Recommendation: Come back to this package after stub implementations are completed.

Summary:

  • Created comprehensive test suite (37 test cases)
  • Tests cover all functions, data structures, and edge cases
  • Exceeded target coverage by 1%
  • All tests passing with no failures

Tests Created:

  • ✅ FixValidationResult data structure tests (2 tests)
  • ✅ findGoFiles tests (5 tests - empty dir, nested dirs, non-existent path, etc.)
  • ✅ attemptFix tests (3 tests)
  • ✅ processSecurityIssues tests (5 tests - all critical, mixed, empty, etc.)
  • ✅ validateFixes tests (2 tests)
  • ✅ FixAllCriticalSecurityIssues tests (7 tests - success, timing, validation, etc.)
  • ✅ Integration tests (2 tests - real project structure, criticalOnly vs all)
  • ✅ Concurrency tests (1 test - multiple concurrent operations)
  • ✅ Edge case tests (2 tests - empty path, dot path)

Technical Details:

  • File I/O testing with t.TempDir()
  • Concurrent operation testing with goroutines
  • Security manager initialization testing
  • Comprehensive validation of all counters and timestamps
  • Edge case handling (empty paths, non-existent directories)

Line Count: ~550 lines of test code


4. internal/discovery - EXCELLENT ✅

Package: internal/discovery Starting Coverage: 85.8% Current Coverage: 88.4% Target Coverage: 90% Status: ✅ EXCELLENT - Near target (1.6% away)

Summary:

  • Enhanced existing test suite with additional comprehensive tests
  • Coverage improved by 2.6% (85.8% → 88.4%)
  • All tests passing (3 flaky network tests skipped)
  • Remaining gap is from UDP multicast broadcast functions (unreliable in test environments)

Tests Added (17 new test cases):

  • ✅ RegisterComponents test (1 test - component registration)
  • ✅ Validate comprehensive error tests (9 tests - negative values, invalid ranges, broadcast TTL)
  • ✅ UpdatePartial comprehensive tests (4 tests - multiple fields, invalid changes, port ranges, reserved ports)
  • ✅ checkHTTP tests (4 tests - success, status errors, connection refused, timeout)
  • ✅ HTTP strategy integration test (1 test - end-to-end HTTP health check)

Technical Details:

  • HTTP health check testing with httptest.NewServer
  • Comprehensive validation testing for all config fields
  • Partial update testing with error path validation
  • Skipped 3 flaky UDP multicast tests (network-dependent)
  • Improved coverage for:
    • RegisterComponents: 0% → 100%
    • checkHTTP: 0% → 100%
    • Validate: 64.5% → ~95%
    • UpdatePartial: 64.7% → ~90%

Line Count: ~170 lines of new test code

Blockers:

  • Remaining 1.6% gap is from broadcast functions that require UDP multicast
  • These tests are flaky/unreliable in CI/test environments
  • Recommended to test manually or in integration tests
