Have we got the right action items?

During last month's workshop, the modeling breakout group thought it would be valuable and achievable to work on the following 5 tasks over the next 12 months, until the spring 2025 workshop. You can view the presentation of these action items (audio is crummy- sorry) starting at 7:00 within this recording.

• Interface with ISMIP7 (What’s the best way to do this? What does interaction look like?)

• Review paper from all major ice sheet models ranking the most important processes we need to observe to improve models - Tim B. will lead.

  • The sense is that we have enough literature on this now to write a review paper that would communicate clearly what needs to be hammered out and are the biggest unknowns in decadal-centennial SLR
  • Help identify the observations needed to better understand these processes key to reducing model uncertainty.

• Paper about data standards/practices if you want your data to be used in models or for things like QGreenland. (Talk with MOSAiC about what they have done on this.)

• Design experiments to test each individual uncertain component and the fidelity of the existing parameterizations - as work towards constraining a suitable parameterization for projections

• Understand steps required to build a NOAA-like probabilistic, operational ice sheet forecasting framework/center

Are these the right tasks? Are there other things we could or should be working on collaboratively to achieve our guiding goal of Capturing ongoing rapid transformations across the Greenland Ice Sheet and their impacts on Earth and society?
