Newer changelog entries need to be added on top of prior ones to keep the history chronological with most recent changes first. +--- +## [0.34.1] - 2026-02-18 + +### Fixed + +- `specfact backlog refine --auto-bundle` no longer persists bundle mapping history into bundle manifest files (for example `.specfact/bundle.yaml`); mapping history remains in dedicated mapping config state. +- Bundle ID candidate derivation no longer falls back to the manifest filename stem (`bundle.yaml` -> `bundle`), preventing false rejection of valid explicit `bundle:` tags. +- OpenSpec change order/archive tracking was synchronized for Wave 1 closure (`verification-01-wave1-delta-closure`) and related archived status markers. + +--- +## [0.34.0] - 2026-02-18 + +### Added + +- **Thorough codebase validation** (validation-01, [#163](https://github.com/nold-ai/specfact-cli/issues/163)) + - `specfact repro --crosshair-per-path-timeout N` to run CrossHair with a higher per-path timeout (deep validation). + - Reference doc [Thorough Codebase Validation](docs/reference/thorough-codebase-validation.md) covering quick check (`specfact repro`), thorough contract-decorated (`hatch run contract-test-full`), sidecar for unmodified code, and dogfooding (repro + contract-test-full on specfact-cli). + - Unit test and TDD evidence for CrossHair per-path timeout passthrough. +- **Init module discovery alignment** (backlog-core-01): `specfact init` now uses the same module discovery roots as command registration (`discover_all_package_metadata()`), so `--list-modules`, `--enable-module`, and `--disable-module` operate on all discovered modules including workspace-level ones (e.g. `modules/backlog-core/`). Closes [#116](https://github.com/nold-ai/specfact-cli/issues/116) scope for init-module-discovery-alignment. +- **Patch mode module** (patch-mode-01, [#177](https://github.com/nold-ai/specfact-cli/issues/177)): `specfact patch apply ` for local apply with preflight; `specfact patch apply --write --yes` for explicit upstream write orchestration and idempotency (`check_idempotent` / `mark_applied`). + +### Changed + +- `specfact init` module state and validation now build from `discover_all_package_metadata()` instead of `discover_package_metadata(get_modules_root())`, aligning enable/disable and list-modules with runtime command discovery. + +### Fixed + +- `specfact repro --crosshair-per-path-timeout 0` (or negative) now fails with a clear error instead of being silently ignored; CLI rejects non-positive CrossHair per-path timeout values. + +--- +## [Unreleased] + +### Added + +- None yet. + --- ## [0.33.0] - 2026-02-17 diff --git a/docs/_layouts/default.html b/docs/_layouts/default.html index 03f5aa2f..eabf781d 100644 --- a/docs/_layouts/default.html +++ b/docs/_layouts/default.html @@ -171,6 +171,7 @@

For deeper CrossHair analysis on critical paths, run CrossHair directly with a higher per-path timeout: + +```bash +crosshair check --per_path_timeout=60 src/your_critical_module/ +``` + +Document this as the recommended thorough path for contract-decorated code; CI can invoke `hatch run contract-test-full` for PR validation. + +## 3. Sidecar validation (unmodified code) + +For repositories you cannot or do not want to modify (no contract decorators added): + +```bash +specfact repro --repo --sidecar --sidecar-bundle +``` + +- Main repro checks run first (lint, semgrep, type-check, CrossHair if available). +- Then sidecar validation runs: unannotated detection, harness generation, CrossHair/Specmatic on generated harnesses. No files in the target repo are modified. +- If CrossHair is not installed or the bundle is invalid, sidecar is skipped or partial with clear messaging; non-zero exit only for main check failures (sidecar can be advisory). + +See [Sidecar Validation Guide](/guides/sidecar-validation/) for setup and bundle configuration. + +## 4. Dogfooding (SpecFact CLI on itself) + +Maintainers can validate the specfact-cli repository with the same pipeline: + +1. **Repro + contract-test-full** (recommended minimum): + + ```bash + specfact repro --repo . + hatch run contract-test-full + ``` + +2. **Optional sidecar** (to cover unannotated code in specfact-cli): + + ```bash + specfact repro --repo . --sidecar --sidecar-bundle + ``` + +Use the same commands in a CI job or release checklist so specfact-cli validates itself before release. and human review. + +## Format Validation + +- proposal.md: E4 EXTEND bullet and acceptance added. +- specs: New requirement (Dependency review packet and coordination artifacts) with Given/When/Then. +- tasks.md: Unchanged; format OK. + +## Module Architecture Alignment (Re-validated 2026-02-10) + +This change was re-validated after renaming and updating to align with the modular architecture (arch-01 through arch-07): + +- Module package structure updated to `modules/{name}/module-package.yaml` pattern +- CLI command registration moved from `cli.py` to `module-package.yaml` declarations +- Core model modifications replaced with arch-07 schema extensions where applicable +- Adapter protocol extensions use arch-05 bridge registry (no direct mixin modification) +- Publisher and integrity metadata added for arch-06 marketplace readiness +- All old change ID references updated to new module-scoped naming + +**Result**: Pass β€” format compliant, module architecture aligned, no breaking changes introduced. + +--- + +## Validation: Init Module Discovery Alignment (2026-02-18) + +**Purpose**: Validate the enhancement that aligns `specfact init` module discovery with command registration so workspace-level modules (e.g. `modules/backlog-core/`) are included in `--list-modules`, `--enable-module`, and `--disable-module`. + +### Change Scope Added + +- **EXTEND** (arch-01 init-module-state): Init uses same discovery roots as registry (`discover_all_package_metadata()` / `get_modules_roots()`). +- **New capability**: init-module-discovery-alignment with spec delta `specs/init-module-discovery-alignment/spec.md`. +- **New tasks**: Section 0.5 (0.5.1–0.5.4) for init command change and test. + +### Breaking Changes Detected + +**Count**: 0. + +- Init change is internal: replace `discover_package_metadata(get_modules_root())` with `discover_all_package_metadata()` in one call site in `src/specfact_cli/modules/init/src/commands.py`. +- No API changes to `module_packages.py`; existing `discover_all_package_metadata()` is reused. +- No dependent files require signature or contract updates. + +### Dependencies Affected + +- **Critical**: None. +- **Recommended**: None (init is the only consumer of the current single-root discovery in that code path). +- **Optional**: Tests that assert init module list content may need to account for workspace-level modules when present. + +### Impact Assessment + +- **Code impact**: Single file change in init command; one new test (or test scenario). +- **Test impact**: Low; add test that `init --list-modules` includes modules from all roots when applicable. +- **Documentation impact**: Low; docs can note that init discovers from same roots as runtime (workspace + built-in + env). +- **Release impact**: Patch (behavior fix/alignment). + +### Format Validation + +- **proposal.md**: Pass β€” EXTEND bullet and Impact/Capabilities added; required sections present. +- **tasks.md**: Pass β€” Section 0.5 uses hierarchical numbering and `- [ ]` task format. +- **specs/init-module-discovery-alignment/spec.md**: Pass β€” ADDED requirements with Given/When/Then. +- **config.yaml compliance**: Pass. + +### OpenSpec Validation + +- **Status**: Pass. +- **Command**: `openspec validate backlog-core-01-dependency-analysis-commands --strict` +- **Result**: Change is valid. + +### User Decision + +**Decision**: Proceed β€” enhancement in scope; no scope extension or deferral. + +**Next steps**: Implement tasks 0.5.1–0.5.4 (init discovery alignment and test); then complete remaining unchecked tasks if any. diff --git a/openspec/changes/backlog-core-01-dependency-analysis-commands/TDD_EVIDENCE.md option exists: `src/specfact_cli/modules/backlog/src/commands.py:2658` + - pending placeholder path: `src/specfact_cli/modules/backlog/src/commands.py:3600` + - hooks module is currently a stub docstring: `modules/bundle-mapper/src/bundle_mapper/commands/__init__.py:1` +- Integration impact: refine/import orchestration, OpenSpec bundle assignment flow, mapping history persistence. + +### 2) patch-mode behavioral completion + +- CLI command surface is present and discoverable, but applier implementation currently behaves as a stub success path. +- Evidence: + - command entrypoint exists: `src/specfact_cli/modules/patch_mode/src/patch_mode/commands/apply.py` + - local apply returns `True` after read/validation without patch execution: `src/specfact_cli/modules/patch_mode/src/patch_mode/pipeline/applier.py:14` + - write apply returns `True` after read/confirmation without provider write orchestration: `src/specfact_cli/modules/patch_mode/src/patch_mode/pipeline/applier.py:31` +- Integration impact: patch pipeline trust model, adapter writeback orchestration, idempotency marker semantics. + +### 3) release docs/changelog parity + +- Documentation currently states auto-bundle behavior as operational while runtime is pending. +- `CHANGELOG.md` has duplicate `0.34.0` sections and patch-mode details placed under `Unreleased`. +- Evidence: + - docs claim auto-bundle import: `docs/reference/commands.md:3986`, `docs/guides/backlog-refinement.md:438` + - runtime pending message: `src/specfact_cli/modules/backlog/src/commands.py:3600` + - duplicate release headings: `CHANGELOG.md:11`, `CHANGELOG.md:39` + +## Breaking-Change Risk Assessment + +- **Proposal-stage only:** no production code modifications were performed during validation. +- **Expected implementation risk:** medium. + - `bundle-mapper` completion changes refine/import behavior paths but should be additive when `--auto-bundle` is explicitly requested. + - `patch-mode` completion may alter command side-effects; confirmation/idempotency contracts must remain explicit to avoid accidental writes. + - docs/changelog updates are non-runtime but release-governance critical. +- **Compatibility posture:** target behavior is extension/completion of existing command contracts; no mandatory public signature removals are proposed. + +## Strict Validation Outcome + +- Required artifacts present: `proposal.md`, `tasks.md`, and `specs/*/spec.md`. +- Strict OpenSpec validation passed for `verification-01-wave1-delta-closure`. +- Change is ready for implementation-phase intake after TDD-first execution. diff --git a/openspec/changes/archive/2026-02-18-verification-01-wave1-delta-closure/TDD_EVIDENCE.md b/openspec/changes/archive/2026-02-18-verification-01-wave1-delta-closure/TDD_EVIDENCE.md new file mode 100644 index 00000000..d6615c30 --- /dev/null +++ b/openspec/changes/archive/2026-02-18-verification-01-wave1-delta-closure/TDD_EVIDENCE.md @@ -0,0 +1,27 @@ +# TDD Evidence - order for dogfooding (repro + contract-test-full; optional sidecar) +- CI or release checklist can include these steps so specfact-cli validates itself before release +- No new repo-specific code required beyond existing repro and contract-test; documentation and optional CI job are sufficient + +#### Scenario: Dogfooding Includes Optional Sidecar + +**Given**: SpecFact CLI repo and a sidecar bundle that includes specfact-cli + +**When**: Maintainer runs `specfact repro --repo . --sidecar --sidecar-bundle ` + +**Then**: Main repro checks run; sidecar runs on unannotated code in no write without explicit user action + +**Acceptance Criteria**: + +- Suggestions are confidence-scored and patch-ready; no automatic writes. + +### Requirement: Policy output filtering and limiting + +The system SHALL support filtering and limiting policy findings/suggestions so large result sets remain actionable. + +**Rationale**: Real backlog snapshots can produce hundreds of findings. + +#### Scenario: Filter by rule id + +**Given**: Policy evaluation produced findings across multiple rule ids + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy validate --rule scrum.dor.acceptance_criteria` + +**Then**: Only findings matching the requested rule filter are displayed and returned. + +#### Scenario: Limit output size + +**Given**: Policy evaluation produced many findings + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy suggest --limit 10` + +**Then**: At most ten suggestions are returned in command output. + +#### Scenario: Grouped output limit applies to item groups + +**Given**: Policy evaluation produced findings for multiple backlog items + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy validate --group-by-item --limit 4` + +**Then**: At most four backlog item groups are returned + +**And**: Each returned group includes all findings/suggestions for that item after rule filtering. + +### Requirement: Policy grouped output by item + +The system SHALL provide optional grouped output by backlog item for validate/suggest commands. + +**Rationale**: Item-centric remediation is easier than scanning flat finding lists. + +#### Scenario: Group validate output by item + +**Given**: Policy evaluation produced failures for multiple `items[N]` evidence pointers + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy validate --group-by-item` + +**Then**: Output includes grouped sections keyed by item index. + +#### Scenario: Group suggest output by item + +**Given**: Policy suggestions were generated for multiple items + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy suggest --group-by-item` + +**Then**: Output includes per-item suggestion groups and summary metadata only (no duplicate top-level flat suggestion list). + +### Requirement: Policy module command shim importability + +The system SHALL keep policy module command shims importable through fully-qualified package paths without relying on lazy-loader `sys.path` mutation. + +**Rationale**: Unit tests and tooling import command shims directly via `specfact_cli.modules.*`. + +#### Scenario: Direct import works without lazy-loader path mutation + +**Given**: A direct Python import context for `specfact_cli.modules.policy_engine.src.commands` + +**When**: The import is executed + +**Then**: The module imports successfully + +**And**: Exposes the `app` object. + +### Requirement: Policy config + +The system SHALL support policy configuration in `.specfact/policy.yaml` (Scrum: DoR/DoD; Kanban: entry/exit per column; SAFe: PI readiness hooks). + +**Rationale**: Plan Ξ”1β€”one config, one engine. + +#### Scenario: Load policy config + +**Given**: `.specfact/policy.yaml` exists with DoR/DoD rules + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy validate` + +**Then**: The system loads policy config and applies rules; missing or invalid config is reported clearly + +**Acceptance Criteria**: + +- A project can define policies in `.specfact/policy.yaml`; loader does not crash on missing/invalid config. + +### Requirement: Policy config scaffolding templates + +The system SHALL provide a policy config scaffolding command that offers common framework templates and writes a starter `.specfact/policy.yaml` for user customization. + +**Rationale**: Reduce setup friction and avoid manual YAML authoring errors. + +#### Scenario: Interactive template selection + +**Given**: A repository without `.specfact/policy.yaml` + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy init` + +**Then**: The CLI prompts for a template/framework selection (for example Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, Mixed) + +**And**: The selected template is written to `.specfact/policy.yaml` + +**And**: The generated file is intended for further user adjustment. + +#### Scenario: Non-interactive template selection + +**Given**: A repository without `.specfact/policy.yaml` + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy init --template scrum` + +**Then**: The Scrum template is written without interactive prompts. + +**Acceptance Criteria**: + +- Template catalog includes the most common supported frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, Mixed baseline). +- Built-in template sources are loaded from `resources/templates/policies/` so they are packaged with SpecFact distributions. +- Generated policy file is valid YAML and can be consumed by `specfact policy validate`. + +### Requirement: Policy validate docs hints + +The system SHALL provide actionable format/documentation hints when `specfact policy validate` detects missing or invalid policy config. + +**Rationale**: Improve self-service troubleshooting. + +#### Scenario: Missing config points to docs + +**Given**: `.specfact/policy.yaml` is missing + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy validate` + +**Then**: The error explains the expected config location + +**And**: The output includes a hint to the policy config format documentation. + +#### Scenario: Invalid config points to docs + +**Given**: `.specfact/policy.yaml` exists but is malformed or does not follow expected schema + +**When**: The user runs `specfact policy validate` + +**Then**: The error includes the parse/validation failure reason + +**And**: The output includes a hint to the policy config format documentation. + diff --git a/openspec/specs/schema-extension-system/spec.md b/openspec/specs/schema-extension-system/spec.md new file mode 100644 index 00000000..21d4c228 --- /dev/null +++ b/openspec/specs/schema-extension-system/spec.md @@ -0,0 +1,140 @@ +# schema-extension-system Specification + +## Purpose +TBD - created by archiving change arch-07-schema-extension-system.
