I am Francesco, passionate about geospatial data, satellite imagery, software eng and data science. Currently, I work in the space-tech sector as Geospatial Data Scientist and ML engineer, where I develop AI-based applications using Earth Observation (EO) data and fusing this data with other sources. Beyond my professional focus, I enjoy tinkering with Raspberry Pi projects and building Linux-based systems for self-hosting. Here you will find some personal projects I have worked on outside of my job. I also contribute to volunteer for tech projects focused on building tools for underserved communities and humanitarian causes. 🇵🇸
- I work mainly in Python, I used R a lot during my studies, and have basic knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL
- Machine Learning and Deep Learning, with a focus on EO data and on image classification and semantic segmentation
- Geoscripting (scripting to handle geospatial data, using GDAL/OGR etc.)
- Data analysis, engineering and visualization
- Google Earth Engine and geemap
- GIS desktop applications (ArcGIS, QGIS) and related APIs (ArcPy, PyQGIS)
- Metaflow to deploy automated workflows and basic understanding on how to run things on the cloud (mainly GCP)
- EO data analysis and processing: optical, hyperspectral, SAR
- AI model uses off-nadir satellite imagery to detect “dark ships”
- Using High-Resolution Satellite Imagery and Deep Learning to Map Artisanal Mining Spatial Extent in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Predicting Olive Tree Chlorophyll Fluorescence Using Explainable AI with Sentinel-2 Imagery in Mediterranean Environment
- Appraising water and nutrient recovery for perennial crops irrigated with reclaimed water in Mediterranean areas through an index-based approach
