You should be able to use git without a network connection. Commitphotos breaks this because it insists on posting to commitphotos.com. If you try to run commitphotos with no connection it should still take the photo, but persist it in a local directory for the time being. Next time you run commitphotos with a network connection, it should send each local photo to the server and delete the local version.
