My $0.02 is it depends on the context, you could be refering to one group, or more than one.

• The API endpoint uses a plural because it manages more than 1 private DnsZoneGroups - that is, its the endpoint that manages all prvate DNS Zone Groups.
• Many of your listed examples are a variaton of privateEndpoint.privateDnsZoneGroup or contains(privateEndpoint, 'privateDnsZoneGroup') , this is singular as its refering to the property of a privateEndpoint.

Its a little ideological - I'm not 100%, but can a private endpoint belong to more than 1 private dns zone group? I could imagine some scenarios where you have morethan one hub (say multi region/HA networking) where theoritically you would want a private endpoint to belong to multiple groups. If this is supported then you'd need to consider updating all those individual references (i.e privateEndpoint.privateDnsZoneGroup) to handle 1 or more groups. I'll see if its possible to configure like this.

Using single or plural is either fine.
But the only thing is the example parameter files for the storage account uses plural and the private endpoint module expecting single.
It took me half a day to find out that parameter files example file incorrect.

and with regards to this:

This will be a breaking change for everyone already using this module as the need to change there parameter files

@milescattini @Robbertbbb since Adding multiple DNS zone groups to a single Private Endpoint is not supported (see note in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/private-link/private-endpoint-dns#private-dns-zone-group) the privateDNSzone parameter in the private endpoint module was updated, but old references in some of the parameter files were not. Due to missing validation on elements of parameter objects we didn't notice this bug. Thanks @Robbertbbb for raising this. PR #2137 by @rahalan should fix this issue.
