Composer... what?

How do I do to just extract your project somewhere, include it and start using it?

Obviously I can install anything on my development computers but most times I only have FTP access to webhosted sites.

I realize this is a workaround, but could you write a little shell script to install with composer and wrap in system() or exec() in a php file, run from your browser, then delete both ASAP for security purposes -> since you just need to install some dependencies quickly?
