This dataset compiles a list of 78 nursing home facilities where Shlomo or Tamar Rechnitz are listed as an owner. It was compiled from publicly available state and federal databases of nursing homes. It also includes federal quality metrics for each facility.
To compile Rechnitz-owned facilities, CalMatters searched state and federal databases.
State Database
Searching the California Department of Public Health CalHealthFind database for “Rechnitz” under “Skilled Nursing Facilities” yielded 77 facilities on Oct 6, 2025, all with Shlomo and/or Tamar Rechnitz listed under “Individuals with any percentage of ownership.” The exception was Oxnard Manor, which only lists Shlomo Rechnitz as a board member and doesn’t specify owners.
Federal Database
Searching the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services nursing home Ownership database for “Rechnitz” found 76 facilities with Shlomo, Tamar and/or a company with Rechnitz in the name listed as some kind of owner.
Together, there are 78 unique facilities where one or both databases name a Rechnitz as some kind of owner. The vast majority of facilities are in both datasets. When CalMatters asked Mark Johnson, an attorney representing Shlomo Rechnitz’ facilities, for any corrections to the list of facilities we found, he did not provide any. Johnson said Rechnitz and his wife, Tamar, “are passive owners of the facilities” and have “absolutely no role in operations or management.”
