Crashes during loading screen

I wanted to try out this mod, but it just crashes during resource loading https://mclo.gs/EJuKa38
to be more specific, it gives an error while the game is loading resources, making the game unload all resources, including minecraft ones meaning the game won't ever load

So this was a fun issue to chase down.

Suspicious Shapes 1.1.0-alpha.1 was linked against Fabric API version 0.114.0.

• It is the 1.21.1 version (of fabric), but works just fine in 1.21.4
• The important part here is fabric-model-loading-api-v1 version 2.0.0. Which, again, works.
• The last version for 1.21.1 proper is 0.116.3, which still uses 2.0.0

The version for 1.21.2 rc-2, 0.106.1, is obsolete.

• This version bumps fabric-model-loading-api-v1 to 3.0.7

The version for 1.21.3, also 0.114.1, is not obsolete

• This version further bumps the version for fabric-model-loading-api-v1 at 3.0.9

The version for 1.21.4, at 0.119.3, is the very latest fabric for the version you're playing.

• This even further bumps fabric-model-loading-api-v1 to 4.3.0

So, since the release of alpha-1, which worked fine on 1.21.4, we have gone through two major version releases of fabric-model-loading-api-v1. The first of these made an unnecessary breaking change. That is, when they went from 2.x.x to 3.x.x, they changed the name of an API method that had no bearing on the implementation of the library.

Now, if I had declared fabric-model-loading-api-v1:2.x in my fmj, this would have immediately popped a helpful error message: This library requires fabric-model-loading-api at least 2.0.0 but less than 3.0.0, and you'd be able to reasonably guess that a workaround could be to backdate to a matching version.

Instead, the universal recommendation in Fabric (and the way the fabric-example-mod is built) is fabric-api:*. Well, that doesn't help me catch errors. In fact, even if I had said fabric-api:0.x we still wouldn't have caught anything. So I'm going to change how I report fabric-api dependencies going forward.

The current workaround, which may not work depending on what other mods you're working with, is to backdate to fabric 0.116.3+1.21.1. The versions for 1.21.3 or 1.21.4 will not work. That looks like the latest version that's compatible. I'll release an updated artifact soon with a renamed method for 1.21.4 that will be a full fix. I'll leave this issue open till that's complete.
