Vendor Price Scan

Addon for World of Warcraft Vanilla 1.12 that automatically scans and saves vendor prices for items, providing essential data for gold making and item valuation.

Installation

Method 1: Direct Download (Recommended)

1. Click the green <> Code button at the top of this page.
2. Select Download ZIP.
3. Extract the ZIP file.
4. Rename the folder from VendorPriceScan-main to VendorPriceScan (remove -main).
5. Move the VendorPriceScan folder to World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns/.
6. Restart WoW or type /reload in-game.

Method 2: Git Clone

Navigate to your WoW installation folder's Interface/AddOns/ directory and run:

Verification

After installation, your folder structure should look like this:

Common Issues:

• ❌ AddOns/VendorPriceScan-main/VendorPriceScan/ (too nested)
• ✅ AddOns/VendorPriceScan/ (correct!)

Usage

Basic Usage

Simply play the game! The addon works in the background:

1. Visit Vendors: Whenever you open a merchant window, the addon scans all items currently in your bags and saves their vendor prices.
   • Note: Items that cannot be sold (e.g., Hearthstone) are ignored.
2. Check Tooltips: Hover over items in your bags or the auction house to see their vendor sell price.

Slash Commands

• /vps: Display addon status and item count.
• /vps show: Open the database window to search and view all saved prices.

Configuration

The addon behaviors can be configured via the database window (/vps show):

• Show prices in tooltips: Toggle vendor price display in tooltips.
• Show 'Vendor Price:' label: Toggle the text label in tooltips.

Integration with AHPriceChecker

To maximize your gold making, install AHPriceChecker.

Why use them together?

• VendorPriceScan builds your personal price database by scanning items in your bags.
• AHPriceChecker uses this data to scan the Auction House and highlight items selling for less than their vendor price (instant profit).

Setup Workflow:

1. Install both addons.
2. Visit vendors to automatically scan items in your bags.
3. Open the Auction House - AHPriceChecker will use your scanned prices.
4. Important: If you scan new items, you must /reload or logout for AHPriceChecker to see the new data.

Technical Details

Saving Data

Data is saved to SavedVariables/VendorPriceScan.lua (account-wide). To ensure your data is saved to disk, you must logout or reload the UI.

Troubleshooting

• Prices not showing in tooltips: Verify "Show prices in tooltips" is checked in /vps show. Ensure you have scanned the item.
• Database window is empty: Visit a merchant to scan items. Only items in your inventory are scanned.
• New scans don't show in other addons: Type /reload or logout to update shared data.
• Data lost after crash: WoW only saves on clean logout/reload. Reload frequently after big scans.
• Items show "(not in cache)": Normal for fresh items. Hover over them to update cache.

Known Limitations

• Reload Required: Other addons (like AHPriceChecker) cannot see newly scanned prices until you /reload.
• Bag Scanning Only: Prices are only scanned for items currently in your bags when you visit a vendor.
• Sellable Items Only: Items that cannot be sold are ignored.
• WoW Version: World of Warcraft 1.12.x (Vanilla) only.
