Overall looks good. Will need a few changes (e.g. version bump), but those can be done in a follow-up PR. See working branch https://github.com/trz42/compatibility-layer/tree/eessi-2023.04

This updates the bootstrap script, uses a recent gentoo commit, and makes some changes in the list of packages that have to be (un)masked (also added a step for unmasking packages, required to get an older GCC installed).
