...long live CentOS8.
Building the base image no longer works, as mirrorlist.centos.org no longer resolves.
This post discusses some alternatives. I replaced FROM centos:8 with FROM oraclelinux:8 in the Dockerfile and it successfully starts the build (although some dependency issues eventually making it fail; will file a separate issue about that).
