Action Performed:

1. Open New Expensify
2. Click + > Create Expense > Manual
3. Change currency to VND
4. Try to create a 100,000,000 expense

Expected Result:

A user expensing in VND would expect to be allowed to create a 100,000,000 expense.

Actual Result:

The user is limited to creating a maximum 10,000,000 expense.
For additional context, a 10,000,000 VND expense converted to USD is only $380ish dollars.

What is the root cause of that problem?

The amount input uses a fixed max length of 8 digits (CONST.IOU.AMOUNT_MAX_LENGTH: 8)

The validation in validateAmount uses CONST.IOU.AMOUNT_MAX_LENGTH as the default amountMaxLength

Users creating expenses in VND and other zero-decimal currencies are limited to a maximum amount of 99,999,999 VND

What is the root cause of that problem?

The root cause is that CONST.IOU.AMOUNT_MAX_LENGTH is set to 8 digits, but the backend PHP validation uses a regex of \-?\d{1,12} which allows up to 12 digits.

This mismatch means users cannot enter amounts the backend can actually handle

For VND (which has decimals: 0), the validateAmount() function creates this regex: ^\d{1,8}$, limiting inputs to 99,999,999 VND.

What changes do you think we should make in order to solve the problem?

Change CONST.IOU.AMOUNT_MAX_LENGTH from 8 to 12 in CONST

• The validateAmount() function already handles decimals correctly by building the regex dynamically based on the decimals parameter
• For USD (decimals=2): Creates regex ^\d{1,12}(\.\d{0,2})?$ → allows 9,999,999,999.99
• For VND (decimals=0): Creates regex ^\d{1,12}$ → allows 999,999,999,999
