Highlighting library does a good job of autodetecting language, but there is the possibility it will make a mistake. We should expose some way for the user to view the alternate predictions the library made, and/or pick the language from all the available plugins.
We could store individual message preferences with the message record so all people viewing the conversation get the correct highlighting.
