An approach I've used on browser extension is to have waitUntilAppears method. It will poll the screen contents once per 100ms and check if desired element is present. Implicit timeout is 20 seconds. Once available, it will return; if not available within timeout, it throws.

Since it will actually sleep and re-check again every 100ms, it should not mind that the app is moving from view to view in the process.

That way, if pass phrase field appears right away, we can proceed without slowing down tests. If not, we can wait for it.
