This system allows you to add many versions and backward compatibility. it also allows you not to always update the pack.mcmeta so there is not always the problem of updating.

if the pack is incompatible: you have to lower the number

That would need to be a separate PR, as it is a different change addressing something, well, different.

We plan to update the pack.png when we get the current update we are working on completed. If you could revert those commits, that would be preferred
