Test the timing difference for cdflib and spacepy for reading/writing lots of CDFs

I wonder how long it would take to write, say, 1000 small files filled with random data. Or likewise, reading 1000 small files from the disk.

I was thinking it would be best to modify the IDEX script so that the CDF files would be filled with completely random data, and then loop through the process 1000 times to make 1000 files. And looping through those 1000 files to read in the data. And then repeat this process with the CDF module that is a part of spacepy.
