This presents an interesting problem of handling text that isn't part of the main article. At the moment the height of the article is calculated from all lines of text in the article. Storing footnotes separately from the article lines would greatly complicate the compression process. I think the answer will be to clip the height of the article before the footnotes begin, but the biggest implementation hurdle will be including the key definitions in the file header.
