Rileylink connection

Hi,
I have a lot of problems with rileylink signals, the problem is that lot of time the signal is close to -99db or less and then is not connecting. of course when I'm at home is easy to find some static position with a good signal, but when my son is out of home is difficult to control it.

He is wearing a belt to assure the pump and the rileylink are close and in transversal position ( the pump horizontal and the riley vertical).

The system turn Green after few minutes, so in the stable Bg is not a problem, but with a big bg changes the proposed temp could be important.

know anybody how to improve the connection signal?

Hi @davidmlb, with RL in relatively close proximity to the pump, radio tuning should report signal strengths of say -60 to -40 dB. Even a few feet away the signal should be around -70 dB or better, which is more than sufficient for fairly reliable RL to pump communication. What you are describing could point to some hardware problem with RL: any visible physical damage? loose or damaged antenna? any objects blocking the antenna, or close to antenna, or between RL and pump? which case is RL in? (you may try taking it out of the case and checking tuning results again). Not exactly sure what you mean by horizontal and vertical positions - you may try other orientations. The signal strength should probably be better if the antenna is not pointing directly to the pump.

Thanks @dm61, that i mean with the orientation is like drawing below

so i think is with a good position.
I think is not a problema from physical damage because i have two new rileys and i tested both with the same problems, also the riley is close to the pump.
I have the riley with the original case, and i tested also with a modify case that the antenna is partially outside the case.

could be the problem that the riley is inside of a belt?

We have this in a belt as well and it works great. I would check the solder points of the antenna and balun under a microscope. If you use a European pump also the frequencies are wrong (916 Mhz antenna vs 868 Mhz pump) which reduces the range somewhat as well. Though in our case in a belt it just works.

I'll check the soldier points, but seem estrange because I have problems with the first riley so I ordered a new one but i have the same problems with the new.

the pump I use one is a WW.

Are they both the tough case? I don't use one, but I do wonder about the antenna being reversed like that and right next to the battery.

I'd like to know what people's experiences have been using different cases (the one withe the exposed antenna vs. the standard case that comes with the Rileylinks (this most recent batch at least...) vs. anything else ya'll may have tried or use at home to get the best range indoors around the house....

Yes I use in both the though case like below image

but I tested also with another case I bougth and making a hole trying to have the antena not covered and I had the same problem. the signal of the riley is changing a lot moving betwen -7xdB -96, -99 -100db...and I can see the Green ligth on and of.
At nitgt in as I have the iPhone and riley static I have not problem, also if the riley is a 1/2 meter of the pump.

@davidmbl - you've been tuning the Rileylink in the [Loop] -[settings]* menu, right? .... - to get the best frequency right?? Mine is usually 916.50mhz or 916.55mhz. Run that test when your sons wearing it and your on the go ... see what variation you get in signal strength and what is tending to be your best operating frequency...

Might be a Bluetooth problem in that case? The green light indicates connection to the phone not to the pump. Have you tried another phone? WW pumps have 868 MHz in any case so your frequency will be like 868.50 as in my case.

I can't check now because the loop is with my son and I'm not at home now.
Yes i didi the tuning, i'm not sure 100% but i think the frequency is around 860MHz...

Also I tested with another mobile....with the same problem, I sow in the iPhone the bluetoth sinal of an on, but i don't know wy,

I'm ussing dexcom g5, so two bluetoth conection in the same mobile g5 and riley..

@chadharper0131 Running the tune command manually is just a diagnostic; you don't need to do that to get your loop working. It will happen automatically in the background when needed.

Yesterday I made a hole on the case cup,

seems the signal improved a little bit, then I tested some positions about riley-pump and mobile, and finally see that the best signal I achieved happens as much close are riley from mobile....if I put mobile close to riley de signal was -44db...

I understood that the important thing is the riley is close to the pump and the mobile could be at 2-3 meters, but only if I separate the mobile from riley 1meter the signals get worse from -44 to -87 or worse..
is ‘it logical?

one thing more when I have connection problems I saw the Green button of the loop switch of and switch on. and if I push the same button manually now I see the Green riley light and the Bluetooth mobile simbol flashing for a second, so the green light is turning of and on for a second.

Any idea?
