Since binaries are part of this repository the module isn't portable. Consider either passing existing binaries or use setup.py to build the binary dependencies.

I know this is a bit of an old issue, but we ran into the same problem when looking for a truly portable Python library for reading and extracting contents of MSI files -- everything we found either expects to be running on Windows with access to msiexec/system libraries, or bundles a compiled copy of the msitools binaries (and generally just works on Linux).

We ended up writing our own pure Python library/CLI utility, pymsi. We were careful to ensure all dependencies are also pure Python, so it should work on Windows, macOS, Linux, BSD, and probably even Pyodide if someone wanted to use it as part of a web app.
