Fixed rectangle effect will not be needed in the future:

Currently there is one virtual layer which spans the whole layout. In the future multiple virtual layers will be possible where each layer will have a start and end position within the layout.
E.g. a panel layout of 32x32 leds can have 4 virtual layers each spanning 16x16 leds and effects within a layer will only be projected between the start and end position.
In the case of fixed rectangle effect: the solid effect can be used for that
