Seasonalisation? Is that even a word?

Anyway, seasonal support can be improved, particularly snowy winter, by producing new versions of textures with snow incorporated, e.g. snowy roofs.

Unfortunately for the vast majority of the library we can't use the same approach as Winterizer because that tool applies a decal. Decals are only supported for lines and draped polygons but even if they did work on objects, forests etc. it would be pointless as the decal would apply uniformly across the entire texture so would look awful.

This is therefore a manual task to apply snow to upward-facing surfaces only.

Note that there is another approach to snow - applying it dynamically in the simulator. If this becomes the norm, we don't need to apply snow at all, we just need to supply winter variants of our content. This is the approach taken by the xEnviro plugin, but it doesn't apply snow to 3rd party content (yet). Discussion is here.
