When applying multi-file concurrent diffs, a red error “Current ask promise was ignored (#1)” appears. The UI does not handle the failure gracefully and the model doesn’t receive a clear explanation of why the tool call failed, which reduces model effectiveness.

Context

Affects batch changes across multiple files using the multi-file concurrent diff flow. The problem is intermittent and degrades the editing and feedback loop.

I'm exploring a potential fix for the intermittent 'Current ask promise was ignored (#1)' error that occurs during multi-file concurrent diffs. I'll investigate the promise handling in the multi-file diff flow and work on improving error handling to provide better feedback to the model.

I've opened PR #8048 with a fix for this issue: #8048

The fix addresses the intermittent "Current ask promise was ignored (#1)" error by:

• Modifying the Task.ts ask() method to return placeholder responses for partial updates instead of throwing errors
• Improving error handling in multiApplyDiffTool.ts with better logging and user feedback
• Adding proper error recovery for batch diff approval failures

This ensures that multi-file concurrent diff operations are no longer disrupted and the model receives clear feedback when operations fail.

All tests are passing and CI checks are currently running. Feedback welcome!
