I’m a heavy WSL user and I run it every day for development, but right now WSLg isn’t very convenient to use together with desktop launchers. I would really love it if Vicinae could support WSLg more directly.

My typical setup is: I do almost all my work inside WSL (tools, CLIs, sometimes Linux GUI apps via WSLg), but I still live in the Windows desktop environment. That means I constantly switch between native Windows apps and things running inside WSL. In this workflow, having a launcher that understands both worlds is extremely valuable.

Concretely, what I’d like Vicinae to support is something along these lines:

Detect or index applications and commands inside WSL (for example binaries under /usr/bin, /usr/local/bin, etc.), and expose them as searchable items in Vicinae.

Allow launching Linux GUI apps through WSLg directly from Vicinae, so they appear as normal Windows windows, instead of me having to manually type commands in a terminal.

Optionally provide a clear action like “Run in WSL” / “Run in WSLg” so it’s obvious that the command will be executed inside the WSL environment.

If possible, pick up any WSLg-registered apps that already show up in the Windows Start Menu and make them first-class citizens in Vicinae’s search.

I think this could become a really compelling feature for people who use WSL as their main dev environment but still live on the Windows desktop. Right now, WSLg is powerful but feels a bit disconnected from productivity tools like launchers. Vicinae seems like a perfect place to bridge that gap.

I think this would be better suited into #71 (cross platform support) and yeah this is a nice idea actually. Maybe once we have the windows support branch up?
