I am OK with not merging this into master and just using the
rails-7-supportbranch in SCF. The plan is to get off this unmaintained gem and migrate to rails 7.0 native encrypted attributes, see: https://civicplus.tpondemand.com/entity/126904-post-rails-7-upgrade-migrate-from
