[MDEP-519] Dependency tree with description of each artefacts

Hello,

I would like to generate a maven dependency tree with a description of each artefacts.

For instance, in my dependencies, due to transitive dependency antlr is in my libs, but (even if I know what is this librairies) I would like to generate a kind of documentation.

If I take the example of antlr artefact I would like something like this : | | | +- antlr:antlr:jar:2.7.7:compile "A framework for constructing recognizers, compilers, and translators from grammatical descriptions containing Java, C#, C++, or Python actions."

The description is coming from central.maven.org/maven2/antlr/antlr/2.7.7/antlr-2.7.7.pom

Hi Rajiv,

some comments:

• have at least a unittest or integrationtest to verify the result
• in general I don't think that people are interested in the description, so please introduce a parameter, default false.
• Descriptions can be long and multi-lined. It's probably wise to only show the first line and to break it after x characters, ending it with ... when necessary.

in addition: did you try to verify your build? mvn -Prun-its verify is the classical command
Checkstyle will show you where you don't follow Maven coding conventions: see https://maven.apache.org/developers/conventions/code.html for more descriptive version of these conventions

did you know that MPIR dependencies report does what you want?
see https://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-clean-plugin/dependencies.html and click on the lights to see more details on artifacts (since details like description can be really verbose)

are you sure that you want such detailed information as pure text on your console?

I think that on console, nothing is really usable: that's where html report is a better UI

If the Apache community believes this task will not be implemented, there is no point in wasting time on this ticket.

Since there's no activity here and this issue is scheduled for autoclosure anyway, I'm going to make an opinionated call that we shouldn't fix this. Our output is too verbose already.
