Cloning a machine is only available in Instant Servers. It is not available in Joyent SDC yet. I'm not sure whether you can determine which flavor of Joyent SDC you are using.

if there is a plan to support it I would add that method and the developer would get an error (404?) if tries to use clone with Joyent SDC. Otherwise I think there should be 2 completelly different SDKs for IS and Joyent.
