Made some changes and tested these as proposed in: #125
Should be able to cleanly merge.
Please note that one line in VDP setupVDPProtocol() needs to be changed as well to enable hardware RTS and CTS:
VDPSerial.setHwFlowCtrlMode(HW_FLOWCTRL_RTS, 64);becomes:
VDPSerial.setHwFlowCtrlMode(HW_FLOWCTRL_CTS_RTS, 64);
