Old browser compatibility

I recently found this wonderful project, it's the only one that was supposed to work with old browsers. The recent update, which use new CSS features, introduced problems for old browsers.
I'm downgrading to use the old layout, but I really like the new one, specially the easy to reach for Search. Is there a way to keep compatibility with old browser while keeping the new layout?
I might be asking for too much, I'm not as familiar with front-end development and Jekyll. Nonetheless, thanks for creating the least complicated recipe app there is.

I forgot to mention, I tried the old beta and that works without any issues in old browsers, which also keeps the newer layout
