I read up on the topic a bit. There seems to be a lot of drama and I'm not sure what I should believe at this point.
But I guess I'll trust your judgement 🙂

I mostly trust the former Freenode admins / staff. Those are the ones that maintained and moderated the network for many many years, and they all seem to agree that this was a takeover with consequences that are not good for the community.
