**Note**: As of DFX v0.26.0, [`dfx start`](https://internetcomputer.org/docs/building-apps/developer-tools/dfx/dfx-start) uses PocketIC by default to run a local development environment (previously this was done with `dfx start --pocketic`). The [`dfx replica`](https://internetcomputer.org/docs/building-apps/developer-tools/dfx/dfx-replica) command has been removed, and there is currently no specific DFX command to start the local replica instead.
