Error attempting to use a disconnected port object

I am receiving an error in the background_page.html console when I click on the browser action button. The browser popup window appears but is blank.

Here is the error message, it seems to log 6 times per click.

Sites Tested:
https://www.github.com - I don't get results
https://www.google.com - I do get results
https://www.youtube.com - I do get results

Just an additional thought, perhaps this is related to having multiple windows open.

I am getting the exact same issue on https://www.github.com but am also successful on https://www.google.com and https://www.youtube.com. I can confirm this is not from having multiple windows open.
