I have encountered this strange bug very often but I have now finally figured out how to reproduce it. The problem was that after writing stuff with the pen, my regular touch just stops working, at least partially: it still seems to recognize the fact that my finger is on the screen but it just won't change the mouse cursor position. Everything done with the pen however is recognized just normally. I have not encountered this bug on Ubuntu and I think that it is Arch specific. Maybe something with libinput?
How to reproduce the bug
Place a finger on the touchscreen, not your palm, just a finger
With the finger on the touchscreen, place the pen on the screen afterwards
Now any positional input through the regular touchscreen is not recognized
