fig build (sometimes) hangs

I'm running fig version 0.5.1 on OSX (with docker daemon on CoreOS VM). Running fig build with a setup similar to the Django example results in the following output:

cole@norway:~/code/liquid $ fig --verbose build                                                                                          
db uses an image, skipping
Building web...

The build never seems to complete, even after leaving it for ~40 minutes.

EDIT: After retrying a few times it finally worked. Not sure what caused the hang before. Successful build took 3 minutes.

If it happens again, check whether docker build . exhibits the same problem - if so, it's not a fig bug but something with either Docker or (more likely) your VM.

I think I have the same problem. When I run fig build it hangs for a several minutes with message Building my_service. But in my case the build will be completed.

I believe initial delay in a build command is often docker uploading the "context" to the docker server (see http://docs.docker.com/reference/commandline/cli/#build). If you have a lot of files (or large files) in your directory this can take a long time. Things like large .git folders, large log files, downloaded dependencies (python virtualenvs, vendored jars, etc).

.dockerignore was created to solve this problem, but that support isn't released in docker-py just yet. It's in master, but no official release.

@dnephin yes, it was because of .dockerignore was not processed. I have large context because of .git and env folders. We should push .dockerignore support for docker-py.

I wish I could install latest docker-py from master branch, but fig has its own docker-py copy in fig/packages/docker. Any suggestions?

Ah, I think that was my problem. I make extensive use of .dockerignore

@satyrius You could run the branch in #375 using a pip git url, and the master branch of docker-py using a similar url.
