I thought about it: You mean as a standalone application you can install via npm, like:

npm install etherpad-lite
and than start with
etherpad-lite

That's a good Idea, you want to do that? I'm focusing on other things at the moment

Also for use at Nodejitsu; our entire API is built on-top of the package.json format. Will take a look at this after JSConf / NodeConf.
