Renaming symbols does not work with Poetry venv as interpreter in VSCode

Describe the Bug

When using a Poetry virtual environment with Pyrefly in VSCode, the rename symbol function does not work. It returns "The element can't be renamed".

It works when using any system or brew installed python interpreters (3.12, 3.13, 3.14).

Are you able to share more details about how your project is set up? In particular, is the symbol you are trying to rename only used in your project, or also in dependencies?

The ideal thing would be a small OSS repo that reproduces the bug, but more details might be enough to understand more.

The error you hit appears to be related to logic in Pyrefly that says you generally cannot rename a symbol that's used in site-packages, which means Pyrefly probably thought it was seeing a dependent there.

One possibility is that something is going on with editable installs and Pyrefly gets confused

Thanks for raising this issue! If the issue does have to do with editable installs we fixed a bug with commit 7a53dd3 which will be included in the next release. Like @stroxler it would be great to get more information or possibly reproduction steps so we can try and diagnose the issue.
