Response when error after data sent

If a server has returned data but there was an error that prevents it from completion, what should be sent?

The only way for a client to detect an error is if invalid CSV was sent - the client should throw error.

What if CSV is valid, but there are more records. How does the client know there was an error? Append null byte to signal to client early termination of stream to force CSV reader to fail? Put comment as last line (this would require updates of clients)?
