It seems parts of the code is inspired by remotion.
Would it be possible to highlight the pros/cons of using hyperframes vs remotion, for example in the Readme?
I think this would help users pick the right tool

Thanks for opening up this issue, and for reading the code closely enough to spot the Remotion DNA. Those attributions in the comments are there on purpose!

HyperFrames is definitely inspired by Remotion. We have used Remotion at HeyGen in production(at scale) and learned a ton from it. We've investigated it for many years even before it blew up with the skills launch.

Several parts of our renderer borrow directly from patterns the Remotion team pioneered (Chrome launch flags, port selection, image2pipe → FFmpeg streaming, in-order frame buffering). Remotion proved the "headless Chrome as a deterministic video renderer" idea could work at scale, and without that foundation we wouldn't have built HyperFrames the way we did. We kept those attribution comments so the lineage stays visible to anyone reading the source.

That said, as we scaled AI video generation at HeyGen we ran into limitations that were hard to work around inside Remotion's model. This was particularly apparent around animation libraries with their own clocks (GSAP and friends), rendering arbitrary HTML/CSS that wasn't written as React, and the agent-authoring workflow we wanted to support. HyperFrames is the tool we built to solve those specific problems for our use case.

On the pros/cons ask: we agree it'd be useful, and we'd rather not write a comparison as a drive-by answer in an issue because it's too easy to be unfair to Remotion when we're the ones holding the pen. We're putting together a proper write-up (architecture differences, honest tradeoffs, where each tool fits) and will publish it as a X post so it can be discussed on its own merits. I'll link it here when it's out, and we can have a core member of the team contribute the comparison list/guide.

@jrusso1020 can it be used for NON-Website videos? Regular promo videos, editing with own footage, etc. As a remotion replacement? I assume you're trying to build a better remotion, I'd like to help you build and utilize this.

@kutzki Yes, you can definitely use it for more than website demos. The "HTML to video" framing leans on website/product demos because that's the most obvious fit, but under the hood it's a general HTML-based compositing pipeline.

Concretely, you can bring your own footage in as <video> elements, layer in audio and TTS narration, stack clips across tracks with data-track-index, and use the blocks in registry/blocks/ for transitions (dissolves, whip-pan, lens flare, glitch), social overlays, lower thirds, and logo outros. The output supports multiple video output formats like MP4, MOV, and WEBM.

Where I'd be honest with you: HyperFrames isn't trying to replace a pro NLE like Premiere or Resolve. Anything you'd do by scrubbing a timeline frame-by-frame, advanced color grading, nodal compositing, multi-band audio mixing — those aren't in scope, and they aren't in Remotion's scope either. That's a real limitation for professional videographers, and we're upfront about it. Where we think it shines is programmatic video: agents, templated video, data-driven, or anything where you'd rather describe the video than drag clips around.

If you want to jump in, the easiest path is to try it on one of your own promo projects and file issues for what's missing or awkward. Happy to have you contributing!

I think another of the key sections that should be added to the README.md is the license section and how it differs from Remotion. I think it’s clear that Hyperframe is completely open-source software, while Remotion is not.
