Reference XML nodes containing '-'

Is there a way in GSL code to refer to XML nodes with dashes in their name? E.g.

<student first-name="James" last-name="Bond"/>

[hintjens]

If this doesn't work then the change will have to be in sflxmll.c and then probably in various places in the GSL engine where today it assumes "a-b" is a unary operator.
