v1.6.3 on QNAP-HBS: Authenticationerror from the Cloud-Service

When using v1.6.3 on QNAP with HBS as backup software I get the error that the authentication is broken and I have to sign in again.

backup starts and then after 5-10 Minutes the error occurs.

When switching back to v1.6.2 everything is fine again.

One thing that could be causing this is the new custom WebDAV authentication feature. Some NAS clients (like QNAP HBS) can be quite sensitive to how authentication is handled, especially during long-running sync jobs.

Could you confirm if you have the new custom auth configuration enabled?

(WEBDAV_CUSTOM_AUTH=true or --customAuth)

If so, could you try disabling it and see if the issue persists?

For now, as a workaround, rolling back to v1.6.2 is a good option if you need stability.
If you can also share any logs from HBS around the time the error happens, that would help us narrow it down.

I’m experiencing the same issue on a Synology NAS using Hyper Backup.

Environment

• NAS: Synology
• Backup software: Hyper Backup
• Container image version: 1.6.3
• Deployment: Docker / Container Manager
• WebDAV client: Hyper Backup

Configuration

The container is configured with:

INXT_USER: xxxxxx
INXT_PASSWORD: xxxxxx
INXT_OTPTOKEN: xxxxxx
WEBDAV_CUSTOM_AUTH=false
WEBDAV_DELETE_FILES_PERMANENTLY=true

Hyper Backup is configured with the following credentials:

username: anonymous
password: anonymous

Issue description

I am experiencing recurring authentication failures when using WebDAV as the destination for Hyper Backup.

In the Hyper Backup logs, I repeatedly see the following error:

[WebDAV] Credentials changed on the destination.

When this happens, the backup task fails with "Authentication failed" and Hyper Backup shows a "Re-authenticate" button.

However, I am already using anonymous authentication.
If I re-enter the same credentials (anonymous / anonymous), the backup works again — but only temporarily. After some time, the issue occurs again.

Container logs

I regularly see the following error in the container logs:

Conclusion

Because of this, version 1.6.3 is not usable for me.

Like @stultitiophobia , I had to downgrade back to version 1.6.2, which is stable and works reliably.

Additional issue

I also noticed that the setting:

WEBDAV_DELETE_FILES_PERMANENTLY=true

does not seem to be respected. Deleted files are still moved to the Trash, and the Trash folder keeps filling up.
