Changes necessary to use this as a dependency of another Rust crate.

It seems to me that the project structure ought to be reorganized somehow, but until then, perhaps this makes sense.

Hello @dabrahams, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

Summary of Changes

This pull request aims to convert the project into a Rust crate, enabling it to be used as a dependency by other Rust crates. The changes involve creating a Cargo.toml file, modifying the existing workspace configuration, and updating the .gitignore file to exclude Cargo.lock and target directories. The author suggests that the project structure might need further reorganization in the future.

Highlights

  • Cargo.toml Creation: A new Cargo.toml file is added to define the crate's metadata, including name, version, and edition.
  • Workspace Configuration: The workspace configuration is moved from the root Cargo.toml to a new Cargo.toml file, and the members are updated to reflect the new directory structure.
  • .gitignore Update: The .gitignore file is updated to exclude Cargo.lock, target, and .vscode directories, which are commonly ignored in Rust projects.

Changelog

  • .gitignore
    • Added /Cargo.lock, /target, and /.vscode to the list of ignored files.
  • Cargo.toml
    • Created a new Cargo.toml file with package metadata and workspace configuration.
  • Cargo.toml (root)
    • Removed the workspace configuration from the root Cargo.toml file.

Code Review

The pull request aims to make the dparser project usable as a dependency in other Rust crates. This involves changes to the Cargo.toml files and the .gitignore file. Overall, the changes seem reasonable, but there are a few points to consider.

Summary of Findings

  • .gitignore Enhancements: Consider adding *.rs.bk and subdirectory Cargo.lock files to .gitignore for better dependency management and editor compatibility.
  • Cargo.toml Metadata: Adding description, license, and repository fields to Cargo.toml would improve crate discoverability and usability.

Merge Readiness

The changes are relatively small and address the stated goal of making the project usable as a crate. The suggestions are minor and can be addressed in future iterations. I am unable to directly approve this pull request, and recommend that others review and approve this code before merging. There are no critical or high severity issues, so it can be merged at the discretion of the other reviewers.

Consider adding a description, license, and repository field to the Cargo.toml file. This will help others understand what the crate does and how they can use it.

FWIW, I can no longer figure out to build the example with these changes. I find Cargo baffling above a very basic level, so I'm sure I'm doing something silly/wrong. Would be grateful if you could help with that detail.
