Membership status changes don't update for user, but show in timeline

When updating a membership status, the status is updated in the timeline but the users status is not updated.
Temporary work around found, double activating and removing "reactivated" status from timeline
Example:

• User applies
• User is approved
• User is moved from Applicant to Active
• Status in timeline showed Admitted, user is still showed as Applicant
• Update status again to Active, timeline is updated again, user is still shown as Applicant
• Removing Reactivated from timeline moved the user status to Active
