The Problem
Since icons are rendered by a memoized component. When a useDarkStore update comes in it does not trigger a rerender.
The current work around was to append a .toString() which creates a new string reference each time and does trigger the rerender.

const isdark = useDarkStore((state) => state.dark).toString();

The Fix
Moving the useDarkStore state to the genericIconComponent and pass it down as a prop.

_This does cause icons that don't have light/dark mode to rerender when changing themes but that change causes so many rerenders already (and seldom happens) the difference is negligible

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Refactor
    • Standardized the dark mode prop name from isdark to isDark across all icon components for consistency.
    • Simplified icon components by removing internal dark mode state handling; icons now expect the isDark prop to be provided externally.
    • Updated fill color and style logic in icons to use the boolean isDark prop directly.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed prop casing issues that could affect icon color rendering in dark mode.
  • Chores
    • Improved internal logic for safer dark mode state initialization.

Walkthrough

This change standardizes the dark mode prop from isdark to isDark across all icon components, updates their internal logic to use a boolean rather than string-based prop, and removes the usage of the useDarkStore hook from individual icon wrappers. The dark mode state is now expected to be passed externally.

Changes

Files/Groups Change Summary
.cursor/rules/icons.mdc Documentation updated to use isDark prop and clarify dark mode prop handling.
src/frontend/src/components/common/genericIconComponent/index.tsx Now subscribes to useDarkStore to pass isDark as a boolean prop to icons.
src/frontend/src/icons/*/index.tsx (all icon index files) Removed useDarkStore usage; components now simply forward props and ref to SVG components.
src/frontend/src/icons/*/*.jsx (all icon SVG files) Changed prop from isdark to isDark, removed string-to-boolean conversion, and directly use boolean prop.
src/frontend/src/icons/Ollama/Ollama.jsx, Pinecone/PineconeLogo.jsx Refactored to use local color variable based on isDark boolean.
src/frontend/src/icons/JigsawStack/JigsawStackIcon.jsx, Anthropic/Anthropic.jsx Changed to access isDark from props object instead of destructuring.
src/frontend/src/stores/darkStore.ts Improved localStorage parsing logic for dark mode state initialization.

1-10: Please update the SVG component to handle a boolean isDark prop (using stringToBool) instead of comparing to the string "true", so it matches the pattern used by other icons.

• File to update:

  • src/frontend/src/icons/BW python/Python.jsx

• Changes needed:

  1. Import the stringToBool utility.
  2. Replace all props.isDark === "true" checks with stringToBool(props.isDark).
  3. Invert logic for the <rect> fill accordingly (use !stringToBool(props.isDark) for light mode).

Example diff:

--- a/src/frontend/src/icons/BW python/Python.jsx
+++ b/src/frontend/src/icons/BW python/Python.jsx
@@
-import React from "react";
+import React from "react";
+import { stringToBool } from "../../utils";   // adjust path as needed

@@
-        fill={props.isDark === "true" ? "white" : "black"}
+        fill={stringToBool(props.isDark) ? "white" : "black"}
@@
-        fill={props.isDark === "true" ? "white" : "black"}

@@
-        fill={props.isDark === "true" ? "black" : "white"}
+        fill={stringToBool(props.isDark) ? "black" : "white"}

This ensures consistent boolean-based theming across all icon components.

🧹 Nitpick comments (2)
src/frontend/src/icons/xAI/xAIIcon.jsx (1)

1-1: Remove unused import.

The stringToBool import is no longer used after the refactor. Consider removing it to keep the code clean.

-import { stringToBool } from "@/utils/utils";
src/frontend/src/icons/DeepSeek/index.tsx (1)

1-2: Consider removing unnecessary React import.

The React import is only used for typing. Since you're using forwardRef directly, you could import just the types needed.

-import type React from "react";
-import { forwardRef } from "react";
+import { forwardRef, type PropsWithChildren } from "react";

Then update the type usage:

-  React.PropsWithChildren<Record<string, never>>
+  PropsWithChildren<Record<string, never>>

src/frontend/src/stores/darkStore.ts (1)

8-11: LGTM! Safer localStorage parsing implementation.

The change from using the non-null assertion operator to explicit null checking is a good improvement. This prevents potential runtime errors if localStorage.getItem("isDark") returns null, making the code more robust and defensive.

src/frontend/src/icons/MCP/McpIcon.jsx (1)

6-6: LGTM! Prop name standardization to camelCase.

The change from props.isdark to props.isDark aligns with the PR's goal to standardize dark mode prop naming and transition from string-based to boolean-based props. This improves consistency across the codebase.

src/frontend/src/icons/xAI/xAIIcon.jsx (1)

5-5: LGTM! Simplified boolean prop usage.

The change from stringToBool(props.isdark) to props.isDark simplifies the component by removing the string-to-boolean conversion and directly using the boolean prop. This aligns with the PR's goal to standardize dark mode prop handling.

src/frontend/src/icons/xAI/index.tsx (1)

6-6: LGTM! Simplified component to forward props directly.

The change removes internal dark mode state management from the icon wrapper, simplifying it to just forward props and ref. This aligns with the PR's goal to move dark mode handling to a higher level and standardize the approach across icon components.

src/frontend/src/icons/Composio/composio.jsx (1)

16-16: LGTM! Transition from string comparison to boolean prop.

The change from props.isdark === "true" to props.isDark simplifies the conditional logic by using a direct boolean prop instead of string comparison. This aligns with the PR's goal to standardize dark mode prop handling across icon components.

src/frontend/src/icons/Twitter X/TwitterX.jsx (1)

2-2: LGTM! Boolean prop usage is cleaner and more direct.

The change from string comparison (isdark === "true") to direct boolean evaluation (isDark) simplifies the conditional logic and aligns with the refactor to standardize dark mode prop handling across icon components.

src/frontend/src/icons/Pinecone/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Simplified wrapper component follows the new pattern.

The component now correctly forwards all props directly to SvgPineconeLogo, removing the internal dark mode state management. This aligns with the refactor to externalize dark mode handling and simplify icon wrapper components.

src/frontend/src/icons/Ollama/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Consistent with the refactor pattern.

The component now correctly forwards all props directly to SvgOllama, removing internal dark mode state management. This change is consistent with the broader refactor to externalize dark mode handling from icon wrapper components.

src/frontend/src/icons/IBMWatsonx/WatsonxAI.jsx (1)

3-3: LGTM! Direct boolean prop usage eliminates unnecessary string conversion.

The change from stringToBool(isdark) to direct boolean evaluation of props.isDark simplifies the logic and aligns with the refactor to standardize dark mode prop handling. The conditional fill color logic is clear and consistent.

src/frontend/src/icons/Anthropic/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Properly simplified wrapper component.

The component now correctly forwards all props directly to SvgAnthropicBox, removing internal dark mode state management. This change is consistent with the refactor pattern applied across multiple icon components to externalize dark mode handling.

src/frontend/src/icons/Windsurf/Windsurf.jsx (1)

12-12: LGTM! Simplified dark mode prop handling.

The change from string-to-boolean conversion to direct boolean usage simplifies the logic and aligns with the PR objective of standardizing dark mode prop handling across icon components.

src/frontend/src/icons/Cleanlab/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Properly implements the dark mode refactoring.

The removal of internal useDarkStore usage and direct prop forwarding aligns with the PR objective of moving dark mode state to higher-level components. The underlying SvgCleanlab component correctly handles the boolean isDark prop as shown in the code snippet.

src/frontend/src/icons/Composio/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Consistent with the refactoring pattern.

The simplified implementation that removes internal useDarkStore usage and forwards props directly is consistent with the broader refactoring approach across icon components.

src/frontend/src/icons/Novita/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Refactoring is consistent, though dark mode handling may be unnecessary.

The change follows the same refactoring pattern as other icon components. Note that the underlying SvgNovita component uses fill="currentColor" which inherits color from CSS/parent, so explicit dark mode prop handling might not be needed. However, the simplification is still valuable for consistency.

src/frontend/src/icons/AWSInverted/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Completes the dark mode refactoring pattern.

The change removes internal useDarkStore usage and forwards props directly, completing the refactoring objective of moving dark mode state to higher-level components. This maintains consistency with the pattern applied across other icon components.

src/frontend/src/icons/Twitter X/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Clean removal of internal dark mode state handling.

This change correctly removes the useDarkStore hook usage and simplifies the component to directly forward props. The TwitterXSVG component (from src/frontend/src/icons/Twitter X/TwitterX.jsx) expects a boolean isDark prop, so this change aligns with the broader refactor to externalize dark mode state management.

src/frontend/src/icons/Mem0/SvgMem.jsx (1)

11-11: LGTM! Correct prop name standardization.

The change from props.isdark to props.isDark properly standardizes the prop name to camelCase and expects a boolean value instead of a string. This aligns with the broader refactor to simplify dark mode handling across icon components.

src/frontend/src/icons/AWS/index.tsx (1)

6-6: LGTM! Simplified dark mode handling.

The change correctly removes the useDarkStore hook usage and simplifies the component to directly forward props. This aligns with the broader refactor to externalize dark mode state management and let parent components pass the boolean isDark prop directly.

src/frontend/src/icons/MCP/index.tsx (1)

6-6: LGTM! Consistent with the dark mode refactor.

The change correctly removes the useDarkStore hook usage and simplifies the component to directly forward props. From the SvgMcpIcon component (in src/frontend/src/icons/MCP/McpIcon.jsx), I can see it expects a boolean isDark prop for conditional fill color rendering, which aligns with this refactor.

src/frontend/src/icons/AstraDB/index.tsx (1)

src/frontend/src/icons/Nvidia/nvidia.jsx (1)

17-17: LGTM! Clean prop standardization and logic simplification.

The changes correctly update the prop name from isdark to isDark and remove the need for string-to-boolean conversion. The fill color logic is straightforward and follows the established pattern across the codebase.

Also applies to: 26-26

src/frontend/src/icons/JigsawStack/index.tsx (1)

8-8: LGTM! Correct implementation of the centralized dark mode approach.

The removal of useDarkStore hook and direct prop forwarding aligns perfectly with the PR objectives. The dark mode state is now managed centrally in genericIconComponent and passed down as a prop, which solves the memoization issue described in the PR.

src/frontend/src/components/common/genericIconComponent/index.tsx (3)

2-2: LGTM! Correct import for centralized dark mode management.

The import of useDarkStore is necessary for the new centralized approach to dark mode handling.

25-27: LGTM! Well-documented solution for the memoization issue.

The comments clearly explain the purpose of subscribing to dark mode state directly in the memoized component. This approach effectively solves the original problem where theme changes weren't triggering re-renders due to memoization.

112-112: LGTM! Consistent prop naming for dark mode state.

The isDark prop standardizes the interface across all icon components, replacing the previous inconsistent isdark string-based approach with a clean boolean prop.

src/frontend/src/icons/AWS/AWS.jsx (1)

15-15: LGTM! Proper dark mode implementation with brand color preservation.

The changes correctly update the prop name to isDark and use direct boolean logic. The fill colors are appropriate - white for dark mode visibility and the AWS brand color (#252f3e) for light mode, maintaining brand consistency.

src/frontend/src/icons/JigsawStack/JigsawStackIcon.jsx (2)

1-1: LGTM: Prop standardization implemented correctly.

The change from destructuring to direct prop access and the standardization from isdark to isDark aligns with the broader refactor across icon components.

12-12: No changes needed for dark-mode gradient
The dark-mode gradient is intentionally identical to the light version to preserve the brand’s colored gradient across themes (as per our icon styling guidelines). You can safely ignore this check.

Likely an incorrect or invalid review comment.

.cursor/rules/icons.mdc (1)

58-58: Excellent documentation update for prop standardization.

The comprehensive update from isdark to isDark throughout the documentation properly reflects the codebase refactor. All examples, best practices, and checklists have been consistently updated.

1-2: LGTM: Clean implementation of dark mode color handling.

The refactor to explicit return with a local color variable follows the established pattern. The conditional logic props.isDark ? "#fff" : "#000" correctly handles light/dark theme switching.

13-13: Consistent color application across all paths.

All SVG paths correctly use the color variable for fill attributes, ensuring consistent theming behavior.

Also applies to: 17-17, 21-21, 25-25, 29-29

src/frontend/src/icons/Pinecone/PineconeLogo.jsx (1)

⚠️ Potential issue

Address the banned type usage flagged by static analysis.

Static analysis correctly flags the {} type as banned. Consider using a more specific type or Record<string, never> for an empty object type.

[error] 7-7: Don't use '{}' as a type.

Prefer explicitly define the object shape. '{}' means "any non-nullable value".

In src/frontend/src/icons/DeepSeek/index.tsx at line 7, the use of the empty
object type `{}` in React.PropsWithChildren is banned by static analysis.
Replace `{}` with a more specific type or use `Record<string, never>` to
represent an empty object type to satisfy the type checker and avoid the banned
type usage.

In src/frontend/src/icons/Nvidia/index.tsx at line 6, the use of
React.PropsWithChildren with an empty object type {} is flagged as banned by
static analysis. Replace the empty object type with a more appropriate type such
as React.PropsWithChildren<unknown> or define a specific props interface if
needed, to avoid using the banned {} type.
