Expand scope beyond github #9

Description

@jayvdb

I am guessing you dont want the overhead and complexities of a "gitfs" which needs a clone before it can access files, and also has the never-ending-scope of "what is a git repo" in a distributed world.

Any chance you would be interested in expanding the scope of this project to use a git hosting abstraction layer, such as https://gitlab.com/gitmate/open-source/IGitt , which solves both those problems while allowing a broader range of git repos to be accessed.
