command 'checkpoints.addCheckpoint' not found

HI all, tried to run plugin, got error - "command 'checkpoints.addCheckpoint' not found". Do i need to configure it somehow?

That's weird. you shouldn't have to configure anything. From some quick testing, I can only reproduce this if i haven't opened a folder or workspace yet, and try running the command from the command palette.

Do you see the Checkpoints panel in the explorer view?

Also, how does you settings look like?

I met the same problem, and FYI after restart (not reload) VSCode, the problem had gone.

I have the same issue. Reset all the settings to their defaults. I see the Checkpoints tab in the Explorer view but the Add Checkpoint command does not work.

I think I have found the issue. It occurs if the extension is activated while not having an active editor open (i.e. all files are closed). The extension is activated when you run the "Add Checkpoint" command or when you view the checkpoints tree view.

Example steps to reproduce;

1. Close all documents (command: "View: Close All Editors")
2. Restart vs code (or run command "Developer: Reload Window")
3. Run command "Checkpoints: Add Checkpoint"

Reason is that the initializtion function CheckpointsController.ts:initialize does an early exit if we do not have an editor:

public initialize() {
  this.activeEditor = window.activeTextEditor;
  if (!this.activeEditor) {
    return;
  }
  // ...
}

The exact reason for this I don't remember, but it seems i've made an assumption that the activeEditor should not be undefined in a couple of places. Have to make sure removing this code won't break anything. Thanks everyone for reporting!

Workaround in the meantime:

1. Open a file in your workspace
2. Run command "Developer: Reload Window" (or restart vscode)
3. Either activate the extension manually by adding a checkpoint, or just open the sidebar to show the checkpoints view.

It looks like closing all files before restarting VS Code and then opening a file fixed the issue. 👍

I was able to add checkpoints but now all those are lost. I'm wondering if this is a related issue or if it's just because I'm using an extension to open remote files using SSH? Extension is "SSH FS" by Kelvin Schoofs.

hmm, not sure. I haven't tried this extension in combination with SSH. But if you have run into the bug in this issue, you would not be able to see your checkpoints. Try adding a checkpoint to see if you get the "command 'checkpoints.addCheckpoint' not found" message. If you do, just follow the steps in the workaround and you'll get back your checkpoints.

Update: For what it's worth, I think the underlying issue is still the same because sometimes I see it working, and sometimes not. This is without any change in behavior in my part.
If I get a chance to do some more in-depth testing, I'll let you know the results.

I have the same issue "command 'checkpoints.addCheckpoint' not found"
Closing all editors + restarting VS Code does nothing.
I'm seeing the Checkpoints panel too but empty.
I have succefully done some checkpoints after install, but now all Checkpoints previously made are gone.
Impossible to get the extension back.
