`.deb` installation does not correctly add the apt repo

Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: N/A

• VS Code Version: 1.102.3
• OS Version: linux mint 22.1 cinnamon

Steps to Reproduce:

1. install the .deb from https://code.visualstudio.com/
2. enable the checkbox to add the microsoft apt repo during installation (i did this with linux mint's installer, not sure what that looks like in the CLI)
3. run apt update

W: GPG error: https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/code stable InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY EB3E94ADBE1229CF
E: The repository 'https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/code stable InRelease' is not signed.

Hi, I have the same issue as well. All details are identical in terms of steps to reproduce, VS Code version, and OS version.

I can confirm this bug on Linux Mint. It only occurs when installing VSCode via Mint's graphical deb-installer. For some reason, it installs the VSCode repository in the old .list format instead of the newer deb822 .sources file. When installing VSCode via APT using the terminal, it installs correctly.

I don't think so. Mint's app doesn't modify anything. I think the bug is in VSCode post-install script. In these lines, to be specific:

However, my knowledge of shell scripting is not sufficient to say this with complete confidence.

Could you send over a screenshot of what Code looks like in the graphical installer, and what version of VS Code gets installed? Some package managers patch the post-installation script or repackage our builds.
