This is not great time-wise: This could be a target for optimization / deduplication of plots at some point when someone gets bored. |

Should fix CircleCI's problem on main, and updates some code for parsing examples following #9292.
If the changes work, CircleCI should come back green having built the frontpage examples + the report example.
