Overview

Contributions is a JavaScript-based program that automates the generation of backdated commits to a GitHub repository. It uses randomly generated dates and timestamps from the past year. This tool updates a .json file with the commit date, adds the changes to Git, creates commits with the backdated timestamp, and pushes them to the provided GitHub repository.

You can download the latest version of Contributions from the Releases section.

Features

  • Automated Backdated Commits: Generate commits with random dates from the past year.
  • JSON Configuration: Easily update commit dates in a .json file.
  • Git Integration: Automatically add, commit, and push changes to your GitHub repository.
  • Customizable Settings: Adjust settings to fit your specific needs.
  • Cross-Platform: Works on any system that supports Node.js.

  2. Navigate to the Directory:

    cd contributions
  3. Install Dependencies: Use npm to install required packages:

    node index.js
  2. Follow Prompts: The program will guide you through the configuration process.

  3. Check Your Repository: After execution, check your GitHub repository for the new commits.

Configuration

Before running Contributions, you may want to configure the settings to match your needs. Open the config.json file and modify the following parameters:

  • repository: Your GitHub repository URL.
  • commitCount: The number of backdated commits to generate.
  • dateRange: Specify the range of dates for the commits.

Here is an example of how the config.json might look:

{
  "repository": "https://github.com/yourusername/yourrepo",
  "commitCount": 10,
  "dateRange": {
    "start": "2022-01-01",
    "end": "2022-12-31"
  }
}

How It Works

Contributions uses a combination of JavaScript and Node.js to perform its tasks. Here's a brief overview of the workflow:

  1. Random Date Generation: The program generates random dates within the specified range.
  2. JSON File Update: It updates the .json file with the new commit dates.
  3. Git Commands: Contributions executes Git commands to add, commit, and push changes to the specified repository.
  4. Error Handling: The program includes error handling to manage issues during execution.
