show multiple search results on map

When doing searches for locations (e.g. a specific supermarket brand, so everything that's not a predefined category) I would like to be able to display all search results directly on the map. Also it would be preferable to be able to start the search and order the search results from the centre of the current viewport or device location.

Yep why not, it would feel more natural as it would look like searching a category.

This is tougher because user might want to search for something far from current viewport. It would require a new UI element explaining that the search was done in current viewport and a button (or whatever) to perform the search worldwide. Or there could simply be two buttons like "search in current view" and "global search" to validate the search. Pressing enter would perform the default action "local" or "global" potentially defined in sidebar settings. What do you think?

Showing all results might be problematic if the search string wasn't very precise and wee get lots of irrelevant results. To solve that, we could have a mix between current behaviour and the one you expect:

Validating a search would show all results on the maps AND still show autocomplete list ordered by relevance, allowing user to select one result if this is the one.

Does this make sense?

If in doubt, let’s look at how Google Maps does it? ;) It’s likely a mix between different things, and also depends on if you are already "in" a search or not.
